    Description

James G. Haizlip and Jimmy Doolittle set records in their aircraft in 1932, sponsored by Shell Oil.  This vintage Demley aircraft lighter has their signatures in red on the base, and two shell motif emblems rivetted to the wings.  I've seen lots of these lighters, none with advertising, and certainly none with the Shell emblems and signatures of aviation heroes.
One side of the prop is missing.  When I first turned the prop to open the hood of the lighter it was a bit recalcitrant, but finally popped open and there was about 90 years of pent up spark.  Man did she fire.  She's still doing that!  I don't think there is any fuel in her.  There's plenty of good props out there.  It's the base and wings that have value here.
