We are pleased to offer for your buying consideration with NO RESERVE and a special "BUY IT NOW!" price is aMAGNIFICENT RARE LARGE 26" ANTIQUE GERMAN SIMON & HALBIG #1249 "SANTA" DOLL!
If you are looking for the most EXCEPTIONAL EXAMPLE of the coveted "Santa" doll, this GORGEOUS GIRL has it all and will steal your heart with her original antique thick blonde MOHAIR WIG, vibrantly blue glass SLEEP EYES with original wax, flawless bisque with beautiful DRAMATIC COLORING and exquisitely modeled FACIAL FEATURES!
Made in Germany circa 1900 by the renowned SIMON & HALBIG firm f
or the FRENCH MARKET evidenced by her PIERCED EARS, she is outfitted in her Summer best dressed in an EXQUISITE ENSEMBLE and display ready for your collection!
Looking every bit like a well indulged little Miss wearing a fancy antique ecru sheer cotton frock with bottom ruffle and lace trimmed collar and sleeves, she makes quite the statement, especially with that fabulous matching two -tiered lace trimmed RUFFLED BONNET with pink silk side rosette framing her beautiful face! Underneath she has layers of antique cotton WHITEWEAR UNDERGARMENTS consisting of a cute little chemise with tiny buttons down the back, a heavy cotton half slip with tucks and scalloped lace at the hem, and a fancy pair of lace trimmed pantaloons! Her outfit is completed by a pair of antique black oilcloth shoes with brown ribbon trim resembling a pair of antique French shoes such as the Jumeau factory made, and antique cream mesh silk socks, both in gently aged condition but fitting her feet like a glove!
Her fully jointed and original composition body is in EXCELLENT CONDITION with a few minor touch-ups that are hard to detect with the naked eye, and primarily at the upper leg joints (we had to use a black light to see them). There is a dent on her left upper thigh that was done at the factory when pulling the leg out of the mold; it does not look damaged or repainted.
She has her original dark blonde MOHAIR WIG that is thick and soft with tons of original curls that frames her face beautifully, and has an antique cardboard pate. Her mesmerizing BLUE GLASS sleep eyes are of excellent quality, and note the thick original coating on her WAX LIDS!
She has SUPERB COLORING with beautifully blushed cheeks, and exquisite features consisting of multi-stroked MOLDED EYEBROWS
and daintily painted upper and lower INDIVIDUAL EYELASHES. Her endearing little girl's facial modeling includes a subtly pronounced double and dimpled chin with a sweet red slightly smiling open mouth with a little mark painted in the center of the lower lip that is characteristic to this mold, and intact
four original white PORCELAIN TEETH! Her bisque head is incised on the back "SIMON & HALBIG", "1249", "Dep, GERMANY", with the mold number also known as the "SANTA DOLL", and the number "13" incised on her neck representing her size. Her bisque head has a small indentation and a tiny mold line on the interior of the rim that was done at the factory when pulling the head from the mold; it does not detract from her appearance and value in any way, and otherwise has no apparent chips, cracks, hairlines or restorations!
