Description
Here is that cute, baby-faced doll named HILDA by Kestner issued in 1914.I purchased her in 2011 and has been displayed in my doll room ever since. I hope to find her a new home.
She has a porcelain head and a composition baby body. However, this little one has some flaws. First of all, she has a repair on the upper rim of the head but is very stable—it does not show under her wig and bonnet. The body has some paint scuffs and rubs, but there are no major compo lifts, cracks or crazing. Plus, there is a repair between her fingers on her right hand. Please see photos. These flaws do not detract from her presence as she displays very well—how could anyone not be taken in by this precious baby and her sweet face.
She wears her original brown human hair wiglet styled in a short baby cut. Her face is just beautiful with painted inner eye corner dots; dots in the nostrils; lip lines and creamy blushed cheeks. The upper and lower lashes; wispy brows and lips are expertly painted. She has an open mouth showing two teeth. Her stationary glass eyes are a pretty blue, but the mechanism is a little loose. I have kept the head stuffed to
stabilize
the eyes.
She is marked: J6 made in Germany 16 (on back of upper head);
then J. D. K.; 237; 25; on the lower neck it reads: ges gesch N 1070.
Doll wears a replacement home-sewn dress and bonnet made from a reproduction Hilda pattern. Dress is an empire waist cut with a gathered skirt. The sleeves are three-quarter length trimmed with cotton lace. Dress neck line is trimmed with lace. Oval lace insert designs are around base of skirt. Insert designs are embroidered in the center and also outlined with lace. Bodice front trimmed with lace and two vintage buttons. She wears a wide brimmed baby bonnet with ecru (ivory) satin ribbon ties. There is also cotton bloomers. No booties/shoes. Note: Dress originally was my mother's dress as a toddler (1933/1934) Dress was taken apart and resewn to fit this doll. (The costume she was wearing when I received her was not original to her either).
